Termites On The Outer Banks
If you see a board on the ground, pick it up and look to see if there are tunnels carved in the under side of the wood. If there are not any termite tunnels, lay the board back down and wait. They will come.
Termites are everywhere on the Outer Banks. The soil and climate is ideal here for colonies to set up home in your home and start feasting on the wood that makes up your house. The only thing that keeps them from becoming a problem is treatment.
When you build a house here the lenders require the ground to be treated to prevent termite infestation. The same thing applies when you buy a house. The lender will reuire a termite inspection and if termites are found the seller has to fix the damage and treat the area to prevent the termites from coming back.
If you buy a house for cash, please be sure to have a termite inspection done. The standard contract has a clause that will allow you to have this done.
